ClimSnow

Projections of snow-cover trends through to 2100

Developed in partnership with Météo-France and INRAE, ClimSnow estimates the medium- and long-term reliability and variability of snow cover. The tool enables every resort to analyse and adapt its tourism offer in response to climate change. As a result, resorts can maintain and improve their operations thanks to ClimSnow's calculations. The information it provides is a valuable decision-making aid when choosing where to invest, drawing on projections of the future state of the snowpack based on five key criteria.

  • Altimetry in 300 m increments
  • Slopes in 10° increments
  • Snow grooming with a snow groomer
  • Snowmaking
  • Eight orientations relative to north

ProSnow

Production and conservation of snow across a ski area

Developed as part of a European research project bringing together 40 partners over three years, ProSnow combines Météo-France weather forecasts, snow-science modelling and field data to manage snow production on a day-to-day basis. Using the snow depths measured by snow groomers and the water volumes used in production, ProSnow generates reliable forecasts for two, three and four days ahead.

  • Snow depths and snow mass on the ground
  • Wet-bulb temperatures and production conditions
  • Solid and liquid precipitation
  • Water consumption for snowmaking

TipSnow

Defining and incorporating snow-depth targets on ski pistes

The first tool to identify, objectively and scientifically, the snow depths required on each piste at each period of the season, so as to guarantee operation through to the desired date while minimising the quantities needed. With no competitor in this segment, TipSnow is unique. Based on an analysis of the last 30 years of climate data, it answers a precise question: are the recorded quantities sufficient to reach the target operating date in the worst conditions?

  • Annual analysis by snow-depth thresholds
  • Optimisation of production volumes
  • Reliable planning of piste openings

Sizing of snowmaking installations

A decision-making aid for Piste Service managers. GSRC indicates the probability of reaching snowmaking production capacity on a given piste, based on historical wet-bulb temperatures and the equipment configuration. Combined with ClimSnow, it makes it possible to anticipate, at a very local level, how production conditions will evolve over 20, 30 years and beyond.

  • What is my probability of snow cover on this piste, equipped as it is today?
  • What equipment should I add to reach a 95% probability of opening?
  • What will my probability of opening be in 2030 if I keep my current equipment?
  • Snowmaking

ClimEau

Projections of how water resources will evolve in mountain regions

A hydro-climatic decision-making tool, ClimEau makes it possible to anticipate how water resources will evolve over the medium and long term in mountain regions. Designed as a continuation of ClimSnow, it helps to analyse the effects of climate change on water availability and to inform adaptation choices at local level.

  • Forward-looking analysis of water resources
  • Decision-making support for mountain regions
  • Anticipating the pressures linked to hydro-climatic change
  • Support for local adaptation strategies
